Lace maintenance
Fashion & Trends, Housekeeping June 25th, 2008Lace is coming back to fashion and we will soon be buying lace shirts and blouses. How to take care of lace?
There are basically three sorts of lace: needle-point, bobbin and machine-made. Nowadays, most lace is machine-made but creating bobbin lace items becomes much more popular these days, you can often find it at craft makers. You should wash lace according to fiber that was used to produce the blend or simply use a washing powder or liquid that is especially formulated for delicate fabrics. Cotton lace can be starched whereas old and delicate lace should be put in a pillow case for washing. Curtain cotton lace should be boiled from time to time, shape it when hanging to dry. When ironing use the hot iron on the wrong side, and the man-made fibers don’t need ironing. Some lace tends to shrink, you can prevent this by pulling it gently into shape when drying. Old lace should be kept in a dry warm place and if you don’t expect to use it for some time you should take it out and air it occasionally as black lace is susceptible to mold.
